Wheatgrass is one of the easiest and most rewarding microgreens to grow at home — sprouting lush, tall green blades within 6 to 10 days. Known for its detoxifying properties and high chlorophyll content, fresh wheatgrass is commonly juiced or added to smoothies for a daily boost of vitamins A, C, and E, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants.

You can grow it year-round in shallow trays or recycled containers using cocopeat or compost. It doesn't need full sunlight, making it perfect for kitchen counters, balconies, or indoor shelves. Even if you’ve never grown microgreens before, wheatgrass is an ideal starting point — fast, forgiving, and fuss-free.

Benefits of Wheatgrass Microgreens

  • Quick Growth: Ready to harvest in 6–10 days
  • Highly Nutritious: Rich in chlorophyll, iron, vitamins, and enzymes
  • Indoor Friendly: Grows well without direct sunlight
  • Low Maintenance: No fertilizer or deep pots required
  • Detox Support: Ideal for juicing and smoothies

Growing Wheatgrass Microgreens

Prepare the Tray

  • Use any shallow tray (1–2 inch deep) with drainage holes
  • Fill with moist cocopeat or a thin compost layer
  • Lightly press the medium flat — avoid compressing too hard

Sow the Seeds

  • Soak wheatgrass seeds in water overnight (8–10 hours)
  • Spread evenly over the medium surface without burying
  • Mist well and cover with a newspaper or lid for the first 2 days

Light & Water

  • After sprouting, uncover and move to indirect sunlight or a well-lit window
  • Mist twice daily to keep the surface moist — don’t let it dry out

Harvest Time

  • Cut with scissors once blades reach 4–6 inches in height (usually day 6–10)
  • Use immediately for best taste and nutrient content

FAQs – Wheatgrass Microgreens

Do I need to fertilize wheatgrass?
No. The nutrients stored in the wheat seed are enough for one full cycle.

Can I regrow from the same tray?
Not effectively — it's best to compost the leftover mat and start fresh.

Where should I grow it indoors?
A bright shelf, kitchen window, or near a fan-lit area is ideal. Avoid stuffy or dark corners.

Is wheatgrass safe for pets?
Yes — in moderation, wheatgrass is often grown for cats and rabbits too.

Can I grow it without soil?
Yes — use only cocopeat or a damp jute mat in a tray with drainage.
