Suitable Plants

The basket can be used for:

  • Petunias
  • Portulaca
  • Alyssum
  • Pansies
  • Marigolds
  • Impatiens
  • Spider plants
  • Money plants
  • Small ferns
  • Mint
  • Trailing foliage plants
  • Artificial plants and flowers

Choose plants according to the available sunlight. Flowering plants generally need more direct sunlight, while many foliage plants prefer bright light with protection from strong afternoon sun.

Wall Position

Choose a wall or supporting surface that can safely hold the combined weight of the basket, wet growing medium, water and the mature plant.

Mount the basket where it can be reached comfortably for watering and plant care. Avoid placing it directly above electrical fittings, polished furniture or areas where draining water could create a problem.

Use fixing hardware suitable for the wall material. Brick, concrete, wood and hollow walls may require different screws, hooks or plugs.

How to Plant

  1. Secure the empty basket firmly against the supporting surface.
  2. Add a growing medium suitable for the selected plant.
  3. Position the plant at the same depth at which it was growing previously.
  4. Fill gently around the roots and leave some space below the rim.
  5. Water slowly and confirm that excess water can leave safely.

For many common flowering and foliage plants, soilless potting mix provides a lightweight growing medium.

Do not fill the basket with heavy garden soil alone. Wet soil adds considerable weight and can become compacted around the roots.

Plant Care

Wall-mounted baskets usually contain less growing medium than large floor pots, so they may require more frequent moisture checks.

Water slowly until the root area is evenly moist. Avoid applying a strong stream because it can displace the growing medium or cause water to splash onto the wall.

Feed according to the needs of the plant. Do not apply several fertilizers together without considering their combined strength.

Remove dry leaves and faded flowers regularly. Trim vigorous trailing plants when they begin covering nearby baskets or blocking light from smaller plants.

Local Care

On hot walls and exposed balconies in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and southern Punjab, protect baskets from intense afternoon sunlight. Heat reflected by concrete can dry the growing medium quickly and damage sensitive leaves.

In Karachi and other humid coastal areas, check the growing medium before watering. Plants growing in shade or protected corners may remain moist longer than expected.

During prolonged monsoon rain in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, make sure water can leave the basket freely. Move sensitive plants under cover if the growing medium remains continuously wet.

Cleaning

Remove the plant and old growing medium before cleaning the basket. Wash away soil and fertilizer residue with water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid, then rinse thoroughly.

Allow the basket to dry before planting again. Inspect its mounting points and wall fixings for damage before returning it to the wall.

FAQs

Why is the basket leaning forward?

The fixing may be loose, uneven or unsuitable for the filled weight. Remove the basket, inspect the mounting point and correct the installation before placing it back.

Can I grow more than one plant in each basket?

Yes, when the plants have compact root systems and similar water and sunlight requirements. Avoid overcrowding because the plants will compete for growing space and become difficult to water evenly.

How can I create a fuller wall display?

Arrange several baskets at different heights and combine upright plants with trailing varieties. Leave enough distance between them for mature growth, watering and airflow.
