Rocket Lettuce, also called Rocket or Arugula, is a quick-growing winter leafy vegetable with a fresh, peppery taste similar to young mustard leaves. Use the leaves in salads, sandwiches, wraps, omelettes, parathas, raita, pasta or cooked vegetable dishes.

Rocket has long been grown from the Mediterranean region through western Asia and northern India. It grows best during cool weather, producing a low group of tender green leaves before developing a tall flowering stem.

How to Sow

• Fill a pot or garden bed with fine, moist potting mix.
• Make shallow rows around ¼ inch deep.
• Sow the seeds thinly and cover them lightly.
• Water gently and keep the soil lightly moist.
• Thin the seedlings to about 3–6 inches apart.

Plant Care

Water regularly and do not allow the soil to dry completely while new leaves are developing. Remove crowded seedlings so the remaining plants receive enough light and airflow.

Mix a small amount of Vermicompost into the soil before sowing. Add another small amount after the first cutting if the plants are growing slowly.

Flea beetles may make tiny holes in the leaves, while aphids may gather around the new growth. Remove badly damaged leaves and spray Neem Oil on affected plants, including the undersides of the leaves.
