Petunia Rose Picotee F1 Hybrid produces rose-pink flowers outlined with a contrasting white edge. The two-colour blooms add detail to sunny pots, window boxes and garden borders.
Grow it in matching containers for a coordinated display, or combine it with solid white and rose-pink flowers. In Pakistan’s plains, autumn sowing brings colour through winter and spring, while cooler northern areas suit spring planting.
Why Gardeners Love It
- Two-Colour Flowers: Rose-pink petals have a distinctive white border.
- Decorative Detail: The contrasting edge makes individual blooms stand out.
- Container Suitable: Useful for pots, window boxes and patio displays.
- Repeated Flowering: Regular feeding and removal of faded flowers support continued blooms.
Best Conditions
- Germination: Usually 7–14 days
- Germination temperature: Around 22–26°C
- Sunlight: At least 6 hours
- Pot size: A 10–12-inch pot for one plant
- Spacing: About 10–12 inches between plants
- Soil: Fertile, moist and well-draining mix
- First flowers: Usually around 12–14 weeks after sowing
Sowing note: In Lahore and Faisalabad, sow from September to October after the strongest heat has eased. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, start during September so seedlings establish before winter. In Karachi and southern Punjab, sow from October to November as temperatures cool. In colder northern and hilly areas, sow from February to April under protection, planting outdoors after hard frost has passed.
How to Sow
- Fill a clean seed tray with fine, moist seed starter mix.
- Scatter the seeds thinly and press gently without covering them with soil.
- Mist lightly and cover with a clear lid or plastic.
- Keep in bright, indirect light, ventilating daily and maintaining surface moisture.
- Remove the cover when seedlings appear and keep them in a bright position.
- Transfer seedlings into individual small pots after they develop 3–4 true leaves.
Plant Care
Water the soil thoroughly when the upper layer begins drying. Remove faded flowers along with the developing seed pod beneath each bloom to keep the plant flowering.
Feed flowering containers every two weeks with a suitable liquid fertilizer at its labelled dilution. A light top-dressing of Vermicompost can supplement the mix during growth. If aphids cluster on tender shoots, treat affected growth with Neem Oil, following its label.
Local Gardener Tips
- Handle seedlings by a leaf when potting them up to protect their delicate stems.
- Gradually introduce young plants to outdoor conditions before final planting.
- Position flowering pots away from roof runoff and heavy rain splash.
- Use plain containers so their patterns do not compete with the white-edged flowers.
Flowering and Display
If stems become stretched and flower only at their ends, shorten a few shoots above healthy leaves. Trim in stages to retain some blooms while new branches develop.
Plant in small groups where the petal edging can be seen easily, such as beside a pathway, seating area or balcony entrance.
FAQs
Will saved seeds produce the same rose-and-white flowers?
Not reliably. Seed collected from an F1 hybrid can produce different colours, markings and growth habits. Fresh F1 seed is the more dependable choice for repeating this flower pattern.
Why are flower buds falling before they open?
Sudden drying of the root ball or temperature changes can cause bud drop. Keep moisture consistent while buds develop. If buds also have holes or dark droppings nearby, inspect them for caterpillars.
