Petunia Deep Rose F1 Hybrid produces rich rose-pink flowers for sunny pots, window boxes and garden borders. Its strong colour stands out against green foliage and works well in grouped containers or a continuous line along a pathway.

Pair it with white flowers for a clear colour contrast, or combine it with lavender and purple shades. In Pakistan’s plains, petunias are usually grown for winter and spring displays, while cooler hill areas can enjoy them during the warmer months.

Why Gardeners Love It

  • Rich Rose Colour: Adds a bold pink shade to flower beds and containers.
  • Versatile Display: Suitable for pots, window boxes and garden edging.
  • Colour Pairing: Combines well with white, lavender and purple flowers.
  • Repeated Blooms: Continues flowering with regular feeding and removal of faded blooms.

Best Conditions

  • Germination: Usually 7–14 days
  • Germination temperature: Around 22–26°C
  • Sunlight: At least 6 hours
  • Pot size: A 10–12-inch pot for one plant
  • Spacing: About 10–12 inches between plants
  • Soil: Fertile, moist and well-draining mix
  • First flowers: Usually around 12–14 weeks after sowing

Sowing note: In Lahore and Faisalabad, sow from September to October after the strongest heat has eased. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, start during September so seedlings establish before winter. In Karachi and southern Punjab, sow from October to November as temperatures cool. In colder northern and hilly areas, sow from February to April under protection, planting outdoors after hard frost has passed.

How to Sow

  1. Fill a clean seed tray with fine seed starter mix and level the surface.
  2. Moisten the mix gently and allow excess water to drain before sowing.
  3. Scatter the seeds thinly, pressing them onto the surface without burying them.
  4. Mist lightly, cover with a clear lid and place in bright, indirect light.
  5. Ventilate daily and remove the cover once seedlings appear.
  6. Transfer seedlings into small individual pots when they have 3–4 true leaves.

Plant Care

Water at soil level when the upper layer of the mix begins drying. Remove faded flowers together with the small developing seed pod beneath them to encourage continued flowering.

Feed flowering containers every two weeks with a suitable liquid fertilizer at its labelled dilution. A light top-dressing of Vermicompost can supplement the mix during growth. If aphids gather on new shoots, treat affected growth with Neem Oil, following its label.

Local Gardener Tips

  • Label seed trays when raising several Petunia colours together.
  • Gradually introduce young plants to outdoor conditions before final planting.
  • Keep flowering pots clear of roof runoff, which can flatten the blooms.
  • Pair Deep Rose with White Petunia or white Alyssum to highlight its colour.

Flowering and Display

If stems become long and flower only at their ends, shorten a few shoots above healthy leaves. Trim in stages so part of the plant remains in flower while new branches develop.

Use matching pots to repeat the rose-pink colour across a balcony or patio. In beds, plant in small groups for a stronger display than widely scattered individual plants.

FAQs

Can I save seeds and get the same Deep Rose flowers?

Not reliably. Seeds collected from an F1 hybrid can produce plants with different colours, flower forms or growth habits. Use fresh F1 seed when you want to repeat the original display.

Why are new leaves turning yellow while the veins stay green?

This can indicate iron deficiency, sometimes caused by an alkaline potting mix that limits iron uptake. Check the mix’s pH and root condition before adding more fertilizer. A suitable iron supplement can help when iron deficiency is confirmed.

Why are there holes in the buds and petals?

Small caterpillars can feed inside flower buds. Look for chewed petals and dark droppings, then inspect the plant around dusk. Remove visible caterpillars and badly damaged buds by hand.
