How to Sow

Pansy seeds germinate best when lightly covered and kept dark until they sprout. Start them in a tray or small pots where moisture is easier to manage.

1. Fill the tray or pots with fine, moist seed starter mix.
2. Sow the seeds thinly and cover with around ⅛ inch of mix.
3. Water the surface gently using a fine spray.
4. Cover with dark paper and keep the mix lightly moist.
5. Remove the cover as soon as the seedlings begin appearing.
6. At 4–6 true leaves, transplant them 8–10 inches apart.

Plant Care

Water when the surface of the mix begins to dry. Pansies prefer fairly even moisture, but constantly wet soil can damage the roots. Water near the soil during the morning and avoid leaving the flowers wet overnight.

Mix a small amount of Vermicompost into the final potting mix before transplanting. Add another small amount after 4–6 weeks only if growth becomes pale or slow. Heavy feeding can produce soft leaves with fewer flowers.

If aphids or spider mites appear, spray Neem Oil on the affected leaves while avoiding open flowers. Remove slugs and snails by hand if they begin damaging young growth.
