NPK 5-15-45 is a water-soluble, high-potassium fertilizer for established plants entering their flowering and fruiting stages. Its 5-15-45 nutrient ratio provides controlled nitrogen with higher phosphorus and potassium for stage-appropriate plant nutrition.
Use it for flowering plants, fruit plants and fruiting vegetables when they require a lower-nitrogen formula. It can be applied through the soil or used as an NPK spray for plants.
NPK Balance
| Nutrient | Percentage | Main Role |
|---|---|---|
| Nitrogen (N) | 5% | Supports controlled leaf and stem growth |
| Phosphorus (P) | 15% | Supports roots, flowering and plant energy processes |
| Potassium (K) | 45% | Supports flower and fruit development and general plant strength |
The high potassium content makes this formula more suitable during flowering and fruiting than during the early leafy growth of young plants.
Best For
NPK 5-15-45 fertilizer can be used for established:
- Tomato, chilli, capsicum, cucumber and brinjal plants
- Melons and other fruiting vegetables
- Citrus, guava, pomegranate and other fruit plants
- Roses and seasonal flowering plants
- Flowering shrubs and ornamental plants
- Plants growing in pots, grow bags or garden soil
When to Apply
Begin applying NPK 5-15-45 when an established plant starts developing flower buds or enters its active flowering and fruiting stage.
Repeat every 10–15 days if needed. Reduce or pause application when the plant is inactive, severely stressed or growing in extreme weather.
How to Use
Mix 1 teaspoon of NPK 5-15-45 fertilizer in 1 litre of water. Stir until the fertilizer has dissolved completely.
Do not increase the amount in an attempt to obtain faster results. A stronger solution can damage leaves or roots.
Soil Application
- Water the plant first if the soil is completely dry.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of fertilizer in 1 litre of water.
- Pour the diluted solution evenly over the soil around the root area.
- Avoid pouring it directly against the main stem.
- Repeat after 10–15 days if needed.
The amount of prepared solution required will depend on the size of the pot and plant. Apply enough to moisten the root area without leaving the soil waterlogged.
Foliar Spray
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of fertilizer in 1 litre of water.
- Fill a clean garden sprayer with the prepared solution.
- Spray the leaves lightly and evenly.
- Apply during the early morning or late afternoon.
- Repeat after 10–15 days if needed.
Avoid spraying during strong sunlight, extreme heat or windy weather. Test the solution on a small part of a sensitive plant before spraying the entire plant.
Better Results
- Apply only to established and actively growing plants.
- Maintain regular watering during flowering and fruit development.
- Make sure pots and grow bags have open drainage holes.
- Avoid applying fertilizer to completely dry soil.
- Do not combine several fertilizers without considering their total nutrient strength.
- Pause feeding when a plant is severely wilted, diseased or suffering from root damage.
- Avoid spraying open flowers unnecessarily.
- Correct sunlight, watering, pest and pollination problems alongside the feeding programme.
Flower drop or poor fruit formation is not always caused by a nutrient deficiency. Extreme temperatures, irregular watering, weak pollination, pests and excessive nitrogen can produce similar problems.
Precautions
- Keep the fertilizer away from children, pets, food and drinking water.
- Wear gloves while measuring and applying it.
- Avoid contact with the eyes and prolonged contact with the skin.
- Do not inhale fertilizer powder or spray mist.
- Never apply the undiluted product directly to leaves or roots.
- Wash your hands and application equipment after use.
- Store the pack tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
- Keep unused fertilizer protected from moisture.
For edible plants, wait 7–10 days after application before harvesting. Wash vegetables, herbs and fruit thoroughly before use.
FAQs
Can NPK 5-15-45 be mixed with calcium nitrate?
Do not combine concentrated NPK 5-15-45 and calcium nitrate in the same container. Calcium may react with the phosphate and form an insoluble deposit. Apply them separately unless you have a verified compatible mixing programme.
What is the difference between NPK 5-15-45 and NPK 20-20-20?
NPK 20-20-20 provides equal amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, making it a more balanced option during general plant growth. NPK 5-15-45 contains much more potassium and is intended mainly for established plants during flowering and fruit development.
Why does fertilizer sometimes leave white marks on the leaves?
White marks may appear when spray droplets dry and leave mineral residue behind. Use the correct dilution, spray lightly and avoid repeatedly soaking the leaves. Clean water can be used to rinse heavy residue after the fertilizer has had time to dry.
Should I apply it before or after rain?
Avoid applying it immediately before heavy rain because the fertilizer may be washed away or diluted excessively. Wait until the rain has passed and the soil has drained before applying the prepared solution.
Is NPK 5-15-45 suitable for hydroponic plants?
Use it in a hydroponic system only as part of a properly calculated nutrient programme. This NPK formula alone may not provide all the calcium, magnesium and micronutrients required by hydroponic plants.
Why has the fertilizer formed lumps inside the pack?
Water-soluble fertilizer can absorb moisture from humid air and begin forming lumps. Keep the pack tightly sealed and store it in a dry place. Do not use material that has become wet, contaminated or difficult to dissolve evenly.
