Morning Glory Orange is a warm-coloured flowering vine suited to Pakistan’s spring and monsoon growing seasons. It produces small orange to scarlet-orange trumpet-shaped flowers with yellow centres, giving it a finer look than the large-flowered blue and purple Morning Glory varieties.
Its slender twining vines grow best in full sunlight and can be guided over balcony grills, fences, trellises, posts and garden arches. It is useful for adding warm seasonal colour to entrances, sunny walls and compact vertical spaces.
💐 Growing Guide
-
Sowing
- Gently scratch the seed coat or soak the seeds in water for a few hours, only until they begin to swell.
- Use either method. You do not need to scratch and soak the same seed.
- Sow ¼ to ½ inch deep and cover lightly with seed-starting mix.
- Sow directly near a climbing support or start each seed in a small pot.
-
Germination & Transplanting
- Keep the growing mix warm and lightly moist, but not waterlogged.
- Move seedlings carefully when they have 2 to 3 true leaves.
- Keep the soil around the roots together to reduce disturbance.
-
Spacing & Container Size
- Keep plants 8 to 12 inches apart.
- For one vine, use a pot at least 10 to 12 inches wide and 10 to 12 inches deep.
- Use a larger container for several vines.
-
Sunlight, Support & Watering
- Grow in full sunlight for healthy vines and better flowering.
- Guide young vines onto a balcony grill, fence, trellis, post or arch.
- Water when the top layer of soil starts to dry. Keep it moist but not soggy.
- During the monsoon, make sure pots and garden soil drain freely.
-
Pests & Flower Care
- Check regularly for aphids, mites and other common garden pests.
- Use neem oil only when pests appear.
- Remove old flowers to help support continued flowering and reduce unwanted self-seeding.
