Hollyhock double produces compact flower spikes covered with large, ruffled blooms in red, pink, rose, yellow, white and darker shades. The flowers can range from semi-double to fully double, giving each group a varied, powder-puff display. Unlike traditional tall hollyhocks, Majorette Mix fits comfortably in pots and smaller flower beds.

Common Hollyhock is an old garden plant associated with Türkiye and western Asia. Majorette Mix is a compact selection that usually reaches only 24–36 inches. Early sowings can flower in their first season, while late or slow-growing plants may wait until the next suitable cool season.

Sowing note: In Lahore, Faisalabad, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, sow from September to November so the plants have enough cool growing time to flower in late winter or spring. In colder northern and hilly areas, start seeds in protected pots from March to April after the risk of hard frost has passed.

How to Sow

Majorette Mix can be started in individual seedling pots or sown directly in its final container. Hollyhocks form long roots, so avoid repeated transplanting.

1. Fill individual pots or the final container with fine, moist seed starter mix.
2. Place one or two seeds in each pot or planting position.
3. Press them gently and cover with a thin layer of mix, no deeper than ¼ inch.
4. Water the surface gently using a fine spray.
5. Keep the mix lightly moist in a bright, cool location.
6. After 3–4 true leaves appear, keep the strongest seedlings and leave 12–18 inches between plants.

Plant Care

Water when the upper layer of the mix begins to dry. Keep young plants evenly moist while their roots become established, but never leave the soil waterlogged. Water near the soil early in the day so the leaves remain dry overnight.

Mix a small amount of Vermicompost into the final soil before sowing or transplanting. Avoid heavy feeding because it can produce excessive leaves and softer stems.

Compact plants usually remain upright, but a slim stake may help in exposed rooftop gardens. If aphids or spider mites appear, spray Neem Oil on the affected leaves and stems, avoiding open flowers.

Flowering

The blooms open gradually from the bottom of each stem upward. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage later buds. For vases, cut a stem when the lower flowers have opened and place it in clean water promptly.
