Air Layering Cups provide an efficient and controlled environment for plant propagation through air layering. Designed to maintain optimal moisture and aeration, these cups support healthy root development while minimizing transplant shock. Ideal for gardeners and horticulturists seeking precise and successful propagation, they simplify the process of growing new plants from existing ones. Durable and reusable, these cups are a practical addition to any propagation toolkit.

How to Use

  1. Choose a healthy stem on a plant suitable for air layering. For a woody plant such as fig, make two cuts around the branch about 4 cm apart through the bark and cambium. Join the cuts lengthwise and remove the ring of bark, leaving the inner wood intact. This ring-barking example is for suitable woody stems; softer stems need a different preparation method.
  2. Moisten sphagnum moss or another suitable rooting medium and squeeze out excess water. Place it around the prepared section inside the cup.
  3. Close and secure the cup around the stem, supporting the branch if needed. Keep the rooting medium damp while roots develop.
  4. Wait until a well-developed root system has formed throughout the rooting medium before cutting the branch below the rooted section.
  5. Open the cup carefully and pot the new plant without pulling apart its roots. Keep it in light shade while it establishes, then gradually return it to its usual growing conditions.

Rooting time varies with the plant and season. Check moisture and root development instead of relying on a fixed number of days.
