Air Layering Pods (also called air layering cups or propagation shells) let you grow new plants directly from a branch — without cutting, grafting, or harming the parent plant. Roots form inside the pod while still attached to the plant, giving you stronger, healthier clones.

These pods are great for woody and semi-woody plants like gulab (rose), amrood (guava), leemu (lemon), chambeli (jasmine), money plant, and bougainvillea. They’re perfect for gardeners who want a mess-free, high-success way to multiply healthy plants.

Benefits

  • No Cutting Needed – Clone plants while keeping them attached to the parent
  • Beginner-Friendly – No special skills or tools required
  • Reusable & Durable – Made from sturdy plastic with locking clips
  • Works on Many Plants – Roses, fruit trees, vines, shrubs, and more

How to Use

1. Choose a Branch

  • Select a healthy, semi-hardwood branch
  • Avoid thin new shoots or overly woody limbs

2. Prepare the Area

  • Remove bark (about 1 inch) to expose the green layer (cambium)
  • Optionally apply rooting hormone for faster results

3. Fill the Pod

  • Add moist cocopeat, peat-moss or soil mix inside the pod
  • Avoid soaking wet filling — just damp is ideal

4. Attach the Pod

  • Snap the pod over the exposed area and lock it closed
  • Keep it secure and shaded from direct heat

5. Monitor & Transplant

  • Check weekly — roots form in 2 to 8 weeks
  • Once visible, cut the branch below the pod and transplantz

💡 Best time to air-layer: Spring and monsoon, when plants are actively growing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this on fruit trees in containers?
Yes — lemon, guava, and even mango branches can be air-layered if they’re thick enough and in good health.

How long does it take for roots to grow?
Usually between 2 to 8 weeks, depending on plant type and weather. Check weekly.

Is rooting powder necessary?
Not required, but it can improve speed and success.

Can I reuse these pods?
Yes. Simply open, clean, and reuse for another plant. Avoid leaving in harsh sunlight for too long between uses.

What type of soil or filling should I use?
Moist cocopeat, moss, or peat-based mediums work best. Avoid soggy mixes — they must hold moisture without compacting.
