Pumice Stone 8–12mm is a washed, medium-sized volcanic stone intended mainly for decorative top dressing in pots and planters. Its natural grey colour and porous texture create a clean surface while covering exposed potting mix.
This size provides a finer and more even appearance than 16–22mm pumice. It works particularly well where small decorative stones are required without using very fine particles.
The grade is selected according to the size of the container and the desired appearance, not according to a particular plant family.

Where to Use It
Use 8–12mm pumice as a surface dressing for:

It can be placed around many established plants provided the stones are kept away from soft stems, crowns and newly emerging shoots.

How to Apply
- Plant in a suitable potting medium and use a container with open drainage holes.
- Water the plant and allow the potting medium to settle.
- Remove loose leaves and debris from the surface.
- Spread approximately one even layer of 8–12mm pumice over the exposed medium.
- Leave a clear space around the main stem, crown and new shoots.
Do not press the stones deeply into the potting medium. Water gently so the lightweight pieces are not displaced.
Although this product is washed, a quick rinse before use can remove fine material created during packing and transport.

Watering After Application
A top dressing can hide the condition of the potting medium. The stones may look dry while the medium underneath is still moist.
Move a few pieces aside and check below the surface before watering. Continue following the moisture requirements of the plant rather than watering according to the appearance of the pumice.
Pour water slowly near the potting surface. A strong stream can move lightweight pumice or wash it over the container rim.
Local Use
In Karachi and other humid coastal areas, check below the pumice before watering because humidity can slow the drying of the potting medium.
During monsoon conditions in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other affected areas, keep drainage holes open and protect containers from prolonged waterlogging. The decorative layer does not correct poor drainage inside the pot.
On hot balconies and rooftops in Lahore, Faisalabad and southern Punjab, inspect the moisture below the stones regularly. Container temperature and drying speed can change quickly during intense summer weather.
Cleaning and Reuse
Remove the pumice from the container and rinse it with clean water to remove soil, fertilizer residue and debris. Allow it to dry before storing or applying it to another healthy container.
Do not transfer uncleaned pumice from a pot affected by serious root disease into another planter.

Why does pumice move while I water?
Pumice contains many air spaces and is lighter than dense gravel. Apply water slowly and close to the surface to prevent the pieces from moving.
Why are white marks appearing on the stones?
Hard water and fertilizer solutions can leave mineral deposits when they dry. Remove the affected stones and rinse them with clean water.
Can the pumice touch the plant stem?
Leave a clear space around soft stems, crowns and new shoots. Constant contact with damp surface material may keep sensitive plant tissue wet.
